My message here is you too can become a successful author and it does not matter where you come from and that your English is not perfect. As long as you have great ideas in your head – you can publish a book.
"What about the English?" – You may ask. "This is what proofreaders and editors are for" – so you have my answer to the question.
You see, too many people have told us that writing books is some magical power saved for only the most intelligent of our species. And of course, if your English is not perfect or if you are a non-native English speaker – then you become brutally stigmatized by some people and they tell you that you should not even think about a writing career in English.
This could not be further from the truth. In fact many non-native speakers write better in English than natural speakers. For example, the famous novel "Lolita" was first written in English by a Russian Vladimir Nabokov. Josef Conrad is regarded as one of the greatest novelists in English, though he wasn't fluent in English until his twenties. Jerzy Kosinski (Polish) and Andrei Codrescu (Romanian), Joseph Brodsky (Russian) are all famous authors who wrote their main work in English. There are many more...
Now, how many successful people do you know who were school dropouts and failed English but nevertheless became successful authors: Jackie Collins, William Faukner, Gwendolyn MacEwen, Herman Melville, Anajs Nin, Banjo Paterson, William Saroyan, William Shakespeare, George Bernard Shaw, Leon Uris and Jan Wolkers.
So, why do we get stigmatized for not being natural English speakers? You see people have and live according to pre-conceived ideas. They think that it makes their lives easier to judge something or someone by putting them in a certain category. If believe these people you never become an author. If you don't believe them, you'll discover amazing things that ordinary people can do if they set out without preconceived notions.
Our book "How to become a Successful Author: 34 Steps to Self-Publishing and Marketing Profits" will show you in "step-by-step" what to do from having no idea what to write your book about to turning your book into International best-seller.
